The power of suggestion

The power of suggestion can be a powerful asset.
Have you ever gone to store and looked at a product and said to yourself, I have to have that!
It’s not coincidence that you feel this feeling. All the marketing out there is geared to your unconscious mind to buy that product. Don’t fear my friend, it happens everywhere from the billboards you drive past, to the commercials you watch on TV, to the updates you see on FB. There is no getting away from it but today you can choose not to be a temptation purchaser.

The next “shiny” new thing that comes into your path you can distract your mind with something else. Like pinching yourself per say.

With the economy at a low point, the businesses of the world are a ping up their marketing because they to , are suffering. The once thriving businesses are now having difficulty getting you to purchase larger items. Here are a few tips and questions to ask yourself before you make a purchase that you truly want or are you a victim of the power of suggestion.

1) Do I really need this product, or can I walk away now and never think of it again (impulse purchasing)

2) Can I find this product at a lower price in another store? (Objective purchasing)

3) Am I purchasing the name brand or am I buying the marketing? (comparison purchasing)

4) how do I feel about this purchase? (Emotional purchasing)

The above questions can help you become more aware of your purchases. Also, the way you purchase in this money management blog is also a key factor. Lets give you an example.

You have $100 to spend on whatever you like. Here’s the difference, on Monday you have $100 cash and on Tuesday you have $100 on a debit card. Which I’d the two days is it most likely you will overspend or make impulse buy?

Yes, Tuesday would be that day!

It comes down to visuals. If you visually see the money, and how you spend it, then you are more conscious of HOW you spend it. Whereas, with a debit card it’s more of a detached form of spending.

Also, on Thursday and Friday of every week, advertisers “prep” you to spend on the weekend. Have you ever noticed there is more blatant advertisements on these days. “50% BLOWOUT SALE THIS WEEKEND ONLY!”

Every day we are put in front of endless purchasing pitches, not now you are armed with a little more awareness.
